What are some tips for getting back into a routine after finishing treatment?
Finding a new normal after cancer treatment isn’t always as easy as some people expect.
If you are well enough and are physically capable of handling your regular daily routines, keep it up.
This includes returning to work, spending time with family and friends, continuing the hobbies you love, running errands, completing monthly chores and going on trips.
Making plans for your future may also help you live each day to its fullest.
If you were not happy with things before you were diagnosed with cancer, use the following questions posed by the National Cancer Institute to determine the most fulfilling ways to spend your time:
Who do I like to spend time with?
Who makes me laugh?
How do I want to spend my time?
What makes me feel happy?
What types of things do I enjoy doing most?
What types of things do I like least?
Is there something I want to do that I never tried?
When returning to your regular routine, try not to avoid your feelings; you do not have to act cheerful if you don’t feel that way.
Do fun things because you want to, not because you feel you have to.
Tiring yourself out can be dangerous, so be careful. If you feel too tired to do anything or don’t feel like getting out of bed each day, it is important that you consult your doctor.
