An image of Vacherie's Oak Alley Plantation used during "Wheel of Fortune's" Southern Charm Week created a stir recently when viewers complained it depicted slaves working outside the mansion.

The controversy was reported by the New York Daily News on Friday.

"Someone please tell me why @WheelofFortune has slaves in their 'Southern Charm Week' images?" a viewer wrote on Twitter on June 15, sharing a clip from the show. The Tweet was retweeted thousands of times.

Two black women appear in front of the plantation in the image, captured by the game show's producers during an on-location shoot in 2005.

A spokeswoman for the plantation noted that tour guides of all skin colors wear period clothing, but there are no actors portraying slaves at the plantation, the Daily News reported.

Still, the stir led the show's executive producer to issue an apology and promise to remove the image from future broadcasts of the episode.
