“THE CZAR OF BLACK HOLLYWOOD”: A documentary about Oscar Micheaux, the first African-American filmmaker. Micheaux’s productions include 1919’s “The Homesteader” and 1931’s “The Exile.” Showing at 7 p.m. Thursday at Indywood Cinema, 628 Elysian Fields Ave.

“TIMBUKTU”: An Oscar nominee for best foreign-language film, “Timbuktu” takes place in and near the ancient city of Malian, aka Timbuktu. In the city, Jihadists ban music, laughter, cigarettes and soccer. Beyond the city, a proud cattle herder (Ibrahim Ahmed, aka Pino) lives peacefully in the dunes with his wife, their daughter and the family’s 12-year-old shepherd.
