“THE BOXTROLLS”: This computer-animated adventure from the makers of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” is a multi-layered action-filled story about a community of cute, largely harmless trolls who dwell beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. The town villain, Archibald Snatcher, hoping to make himself king, plots to destroy the boxtrolls. The all-star voice talent includes Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris and Simon Pegg.
“THE SKELETON TWINS”: Former “Saturday Night Live” cast members Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader reunite as a pair of adult twins who share a troubled childhood. The movie, co-produced by New Orleans native Stephanie Langhoff, is an indie jewel, both funny and tragic.
“STARRED UP”: Jack O’Connell stars as the ultra-violent, 19-year-old Eric. Transferred to the same adult prison facility as his estranged father, (Ben Mendelsohn), Eric and his explosive temper make him the enemy of prison authorities and his fellow inmates. Opens Friday, Sept. 26, at Zeitgeist Multi-disciplinary Arts Center, 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., New Orleans.
“THE 78 MOVIE PROJECT ROAD TOUR”: “The 78 Project Movie” tells the story of two people who drive across America and record contemporary musicians on a 1930s Presto direct-to-disc recorder. Area musicians are also invited to record a 78 rpm disc recording at Zeitgeist Multi-disciplinary Arts Center, 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The screening and recording take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
