Annette Bening will portray former Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco in FX's "Katrina: American Crime Story."

The network announced the casting today for Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s award-winning anthology series, which will premiere in 2018.

Blanco, who served as governor from 2004 to 2008, directed the response, evacuation and rebuilding efforts after hurricanes Katrina and Rita wreaked havoc on the state in August and September 2005, respectively.

Veteran actress Bening stars in the comedy-drama "20th Century Women," currently in theaters. She was nominated for Oscars for her roles in "The Kids Are All Right" (2010), "Being Julia" (2004), "American Beauty" (1999) and "The Grifters" (1990).

Last season, "American Crime Story" centered on the murder trial of O.J. Simpson. The series won two Golden Globes.
