The New Orleans-filmed episode of the Foo Fighters’ HBO music documentary series, “Sonic Highways,” premieres Friday at 10 p.m. Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl has described the series as a love letter to American music. The New Orleans episode of “Sonic Highways” includes footage of the Foo Fighters recording a new song, “In the Clear,” at Preservation Hall.

The Foo Fighters’ HBO series and the group’s latest album, also called “Sonic Highways,” were filmed and recorded in eight U.S. cities, including Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and New York.

Previous “Sonic Highways” promotional appearances by the Foo Fighters in cities where the series was filmed include the group’s Nov. 14 appearance in Los Angeles at The Roxy. Special guests Joe Walsh and Perry Farrell joined the group at that show.
