Sets by all of Friday’s headlining acts at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell were cut short by inclement weather.

Lightning and rain were factors in the decision to close an hour early. Jazz Fest’s scheduled closing time is 7 p.m.

At the Congo Square stage, featuring reggae star Jimmy Cliff, the announcement came shortly before 6 p.m.

Country star Keith Urban carried on until about 6:10 p.m., by which time he, too, threw in the towel. By 6:15, the occasional lightning, thunder and steady but light rain turned into a noisy thunderstorm and downpour.

Jimmy Cliff performed for about 20 minutes before leaving the stage as well. All other performers on stage in the 6 oclock hour were halted as well.
