A New Orleans police officer was injured late Tuesday while assisting motorists after a traffic accident. Police said the officer’s marked cruiser was struck from behind while he was still inside.
It was not immediately clear exactly where the incident took place.
Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, the officer pulled up with his overhead lights on to assist at a scene of an accident when a black SUV struck him from behind, according to a Police Department news release. The impact caused the police vehicle to strike the vehicle in front of it as well, police said.
The unidentified officer is in stable condition. The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital and his injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.
