A 24-year old man suffering from a gunshot wound later died near the neutral ground in the 2800 block of Orleans, New Orleans police reported through a release.

Late Sunday, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Arron White, a recruit with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.

It is believed the victim was shot in his side near North Johnson and Orleans from where he traveled up Orleans and came to a stop partially on the neutral ground, where he later died, police said.

No other details are currently available, authorities reported.
