A Geismar man being pulled over Friday pretended to be a retired law enforcement officer to try to get out of facing his fifth DWI charge, according to a release from St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre.

A deputy who stopped John Lee, 49, on Interstate 10 eastbound in Reserve said he smelled booze on Lee’s breath and saw an open beer in his truck.

Lee produced a card issued by the St. Bernard Parish Office of Homeland Security during the stop, police said, but it identified him only as a construction contractor for the parish.

Lee was booked on counts of DWI, operating a vehicle while under suspension, possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle, speeding, simple assault and false impersonation of a police officer.
