Sexual assaults were reported Tuesday in Algiers and near Xavier University.

In the first case, a 17-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted Oct. 6 in the 3500 block of Boyd Street in Algiers.

Later, a woman, 48, reported being raped in the vicinity of Washington and South Carrollton avenues.

Those rape reports come after a string of similar attacks that also involved armed robberies, but New Orleans Police Department spokesman Tyler Gamble said the latest incidents do not appear to be related to those.

“Detectives don’t believe these two cases have any relation to the other sexual assaults,” Gamble said. “The victims in both cases knew the alleged perpetrators.”
