Two arrested after New Orleans manhunt involving armed robbery suspects ends in marsh off I-10 _lowres

(Via WWL-TV) New Orleans police are searching the area of U.S. 11 and I-10 for a suspect in connection with a recent armed robbery.

UPDATE: 7:54 p.m.

After a short manhunt, one man has been arrested in connection with a recent armed robbery, along with his girlfiend.

NOPD announced the arest of Donnell Benjamin, 20, just after 5 p.m. in the marsh near I-10 westbound. Police said they had been looking for Benjamin throughout the day, and observed him driving in the same vehicle identified during the alleged robbery.

Benjamin fled east on I-10, according to the report, and eventually abandoned the vehicle, fleeing into the marsh near the Irish Bayou exit. Benjamin was eventually caught and arrested after being treated for asthma.

Benjamin's girlfriend, Christina Evans, was also in the vehicle and was booked for her alleged involvement in the robbery.

Charges are pending, police said.

UPDATE: 5:07 p.m.

Police announced that the suspect who was being pursued along Interstate 10 Eastbound has been arrested.

The Louisiana State Police and several other agencies assisted in the search.

New Orleans police reported about 4:37 p.m. Wednesday they were in pursuit of a suspect in a recent armed robbery.

According to the NOPD release, they were pursuing the suspect in the area of Highway 11 and I-10 Eastbound. The report indicated the robbery occured "a few weeks ago" and the suspect fired shots at the victim.

I-10 is still open at this time.
