TURKEY DAY RACE BENEFITS SPINA BIFIDA: The New Orleans Track Club will host the 107th Annual NOAC Turkey Day Race, on Thursday, Nov. 27. A road race open to participants of all running and walking skill levels, the event will take place at 8:30 a.m. starting and finishing at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. Proceeds benefit Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans.

Since 1907, The New Orleans Athletic Club’s Turkey Day Race has been a New Orleans tradition, bringing generations of families and friends together before a day of giving thanks. The morning’s festivities will include a scenic five-mile run/walk and half-mile kids’ race.

Registration is open at runNOTC.org/turkeyday. Race-day registration opens onsite at 7 a.m.

KPD DOLL AND TOY GIVEAWAY: The Kenner Police Department will hold their annual Doll and Toy Fund giveaway Monday, Dec. 15. Each year, the Kenner Police Department presents Christmas gifts to underprivileged children living in Kenner. To register underprivileged children living in Kenner, contact the KPD Community Relations Division at (504) 712-2294 or (504) 712-2395, no later than Monday, Dec. 1.

In addition, the Kenner Police Department, along with Wal-Mart and the Esplanade Mall, accept donations for this year’s Doll & Toy fund from now until Monday, Dec. 1. Toys need to be unwrapped and appropriate for children infant to 12 years old.

Drop boxes will be placed at the Kenner Police Lobby 500 Veterans Boulevard, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and at area Wal-Mart stores, 8912 Veterans Blvd. from 6 a.m. to midnight; 300 West Esplanade Ave. and 3520 Williams Blvd., both open 24 hours; and Esplanade Mall, 1401 West Esplanade Ave., 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

For those living in Kenner who wish to donate new toys and are unable to travel to a drop box location, they are asked to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, and arrangements will be made for an officer to pick up the toys.

SAILING WITH SANTA TO BENEFIT BATTERED WOMEN’S SHELTER: The Steamboat Natchez invites children of all ages to take a ride down the Mississippi River for the annual Sailing with Santa cruise. The Steamboat will be dressed in its holiday best and everyone will have an opportunity to take a picture with Saint Nick before boarding the boat. Santa will be collecting new, unwrapped toys that he will deliver to Crescent House and St. Bernard Women’s Shelter before making his way up to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas. The cruise is free for anyone donating a new, unwrapped gift.

Sailing with Santa Cruise is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29. Holiday toys and essential needs drive for women and their children ages infant to 17 years of New Orleans’ area battered women’s shelters will be collected beginning at 1:30 p.m. Boarding begins at 2 p.m. at the Steamboat Natchez, Toulouse Street at the Mississippi River.

ALLIANCE FRANCAISE MINICLASSES: “Mini-classes” designed for the holidays include a combination Review & Conversation for Beginner and Intermediate levels, and special offering, Phonetique, Le Monde avec TV5 (French News), and French for Holiday Travelers and are available from the Alliance Française de La Nouvelle-Orléans. There is a 101 Immersion Class that covers the complete 101 Beginner Level in three weeks.

Classes are $55 for three 1½ hour sessions, and start Dec. 1st. Regular classes begin again in January. An early bird special is available through Nov. 24 when a mini-class is bundled with the regular and accelerated class that begins in January with a savings of $40.
