A man was shot to death Saturday night in the 500 block of North Elm Street in Metairie.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of shots fired about 8:20 p.m.

They found a 2001 Nissan Xterra pulled partly off the road near a vacant lot. Inside, a man was slumped over from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to call the Homicide Division at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Rapes reported in Treme and Mid-City

New Orleans police said a 42-year-old woman reported about 6:30 p.m. Saturday that she had been raped in the 1900 block of St. Ann Street in Treme.

Shortly after midnight that night, a woman in the 3000 block of Iberville Street said she had been raped by a man she knew.

Violet man dies in single-vehicle crash

A 45-year-old resident of Violet died Saturday night after he lost control of his SUV in the 5900 block of Almonaster Avenue.

New Orleans police said the man was driving west on Almonaster about 10:30 p.m. when his 2011 Cadillac Escalade hit the median, left the roadway and flipped over several times, landing upside-down in a ditch. Paramedics tried to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

The coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and blood tests will determine if impairment was a factor.

Two men pull off greasy theft at McDonald’s

The NOPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating two men who stole a load of cooking grease Jan. 7 from the McDonald’s restaurant at 2757 Canal St.

The two men drove a gray pickup truck with a silver workbench attached to the bed into the rear parking lot of the restaurant about 7 a.m., police said.

They parked the truck in the area where the cooking grease is stored, and one of the two began loading the grease into a large container and placing it inside the truck.

When confronted by an employee, the men fled in the truck with cooking grease valued at $500.

First District Detective Meghan Constantine is in charge of the investigation.

Woman awakened by man standing over her

A woman, 49, said she woke up about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in her residence in the 1000 block of Lowerline Street in Carrollton to find a man standing next to her bed with his hand over her mouth.

She shook her head and screamed, “No!” and the man ran out the front door, she said.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported these crimes:

A woman was robbed at gunpoint before 10 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Dogwood Drive in Harvey. She was not injured.

A man was robbed at gunpoint before 2 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Capitol Drive in Avondale. He was not injured.

A man was the victim of an armed robbery about 7 p.m. Friday in the 2000 block of Woodmere Boulevard in Harvey. He was not injured.

A woman was robbed about 7 p.m. Friday in the 4000 block of Durand Street in Metairie. She was not injured.
