A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy who was stabbed in the back during a domestic altercation was fired Saturday after investigators decided that both husband and wife were partly responsible for the incident.

Derrick Torregano, 29, and his wife, Brittany Torregano, 23, were both arrested, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. George Bonnett said in a news release Monday.

Brittany Torregano was booked on one felony count of child desertion and one felony count of aggravated battery.

Bonnett said she stabbed her husband in the back with a knife and on several occasions Saturday left the couple’s three young children at home alone. She remained in jail Monday.

Derrick Torregano, who was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on one misdemeanor count of domestic abuse battery, bonded out on Sunday morning. He was fired as a deputy before he was arrested, Bonnett said.
