Ten students who attended high school in the greater New Orleans area were awarded scholarships by the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation to further their culinary and hospitality-related studies at a post-secondary institution. In total, the LRAEF, through its scholarship fund, awarded $70,000 in scholarships to 33 students.

The Greater New Orleans area recipients who received the LRAEF/NRAEF ProStart Scholarship are:

Colin Berthelot, graduate of Lutcher High School/St. James Career and Technology Center, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute

Jessica Foret, graduate of Grace King High School, attending Delgado Community College (second-year recipient)

Sadie Poche, graduate of Lutcher High School/St. James Career and Technology Center, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University (second-year recipient).

The Greater New Orleans area recipients who received the LRA Culinary and Hospitality Leadership Scholarship are:

Veronica Bruno, graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, attending University of New Orleans

JoAnna Euraque, graduate of East Jefferson High School, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute

Chayil Johnson, graduate of Abeka Academy/New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, attending Johnson & Wales University

April Lee, graduate of East St. John High School, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University (third-year recipient)

LaTasha Pierre, graduate of Warren Easton Fundamental Senior High School, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute.

The Greater New Orleans area recipient who received the Louisiana Seafood Scholarship is Rachel DeFelice, graduate of Grace King High School, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.

The LRAEF’s most prestigious award, the Jim Funk Scholarship, is named for former LRA President and CEO Jim Funk, who retired in 2010 after 30 years of service. This year’s recipient of the Jim Funk Scholarship is Kerry Ford. Ford is a graduate of Destrehan High School/St. Charles Satellite Center and will be attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.

The students were presented their awards at the 2015 LRAEF Five Star Futures Gala on Aug. 8 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.
