A suspect wanted in connection with an April 8 triple shooting in the Lower 9th Ward surrendered to heavily armed law enforcement officers with a child in one of his arms shortly after noon on Friday, according to Kenner Police. An WWL-TV viewer submitted a picture of the dramatic scene to the station.

Kenner Lt. Brian McGregor said U.S. marshals located Eddieshawn "12 O'Clock" Smith at his girlfriend's residence in the 3300 block of Macon Drive in the Chateau subdivision.

"He wouldn't come out at first, and eventually he emerged carrying a child," McGregor said. "We were about ready to call the SWAT team out when he opted to surrender." Mcgregor said he did not know why Smith brought the child outside with him, although suspects sometimes use children as shields.

The New Orleans Police Department intends to book Smith on three counts of principle to aggravated battery after he is transported to Orleans Parish.
