A 23-year-old LaPlace man was indicted Monday in the November shooting death of 31-year-old Cardell Corsey, the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said this week in a news release.
Lionel Labranche was indicted by a grand jury on charges of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Labranche was arrested later that day and held on a $450,150 bond, St. John Sheriff Mike Tregre said. Labranche is accused of shooting Cosey on East 13th Street in Reserve on November 17.
Four other men have also been arrested in connection with Cosey’s slaying.
Samuel Covington III, 20, of Kenner was booked with principal to second-degree murder. Covington’s bond has not been set.
Jerry Weber, 21, of LaPlace, was arrested on an obstruction of justice charge. Weber was released on a $2,500 bond.
Demario Gray, 27, of Reserve, was also booked with obstruction of justice. Gray’s was released on a $12,000 bond.
Terrell Noel, 25, of Reserve, was arrested November 27 on outstanding warrants, and remains in custody. Noel will be booked with obstruction of justice and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Tregre said.
Authorities say they are seeking 26-year-old Kenyatta Miller, of LaPlace, on an outstanding warrant for attempted obstruction of justice in connection with Cosey’s killing.
