Lusher Charter School students won 16 awards, including eight first-place awards, in the 2014 Louisiana Writes! competition, across 10 categories in-grades K-12. The students will be honored at an awards ceremony at the State Museum in November that will open the Louisiana Book Festival.

The Lusher winners are:

  • Zachary Arendt, third place, seventh-eighth-grade fiction
  • Keiffer Ary, second place, K-2 fiction
  • Aja Becker, second place, seventh-eighth-grade poetry
  • Sophie Evans; third place, ninth-10th-grade poetry
  • Alexandra Gulden, first place, ninth-10th-grade fiction, and second place, ninth-10th-grade poetry
  • Kysah Khokher, first place, fifth-sixth-grade nonfiction
  • Madeleine LaCesne, first place, 11th-12th-grade poetry; third place, 11th-12th-grade nonfiction; and third place, 11th-12th-grade fiction
  • Grace Morse, first place, seventh-eighth-grade poetry
  • Freda Sciarappa, first place, seventh-eighth-grade fiction
  • Madeline Sintes, first place, ninth-10th-grade poetry
  • Lizzette Toto, first place, seventh-12th-grade senior division French poetry
  • Benjamin Wilkins, second place, fifth-sixth-grade fiction
  • Joyce Zhao, first place, fifth-sixth-grade fiction.
