Two teens arrestedin Kenner rape case

Kenner — Kenner police arrested two teenage boys this weekend after authorities said one of boys lured a girl to his home so that the other one could rape her.

Jawan Nelson, 17, and Edwin Stewart, 18, were arrested on Sunday. Nelson was booked with principle to forcible rape, while Stewart was booked with forcible rape and false imprisonment. Nelson is being held on $50,000; Stewart’s bond is $150,500.

According to an arrest report, Nelson called the girl on Christmas Eve and asked her to come visit him on 27th Street in Kenner. Nelson and Stewart live close to each other.

The girl told police that when she entered the home, Stewart jumped from a hiding place, grabbed her and forced her further into the home. She tried to escape, and he slapped her in the face and told her she was going to have sex with him no matter what, the report stated. He then ripped off her underwear and raped her. Both boys were arrested without incident.

Man, 32, booked in child desertation

Kenner — A Kenner man was booked with child desertion last week after Kenner police said they caught him speeding with an 8-month old child lying on the floor of his truck.

Son Pham, 32, also was booked with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, running a stop sign and failing to use a child restraint. According to an arrest report, police stopped Pham on Dec. 27 after they saw him speeding down Bertolino Street, run a stop sign and almost cause an accident.

When an officer approached Pham’s vehicle, the officer observed an infant lying on the bare floorboard with no sort of restraint or blankets.

Motorcyclist ID’din deadly accident

New Orleans — A St. Louis man killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday night was identified by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office on Monday.

Jason Kelly, 42, died after he crashed his motorcycle into the rear of an SUV on Downman Road about 8 p.m. Sunday. Police said Kelly was traveling toward Lake Pontchartrain in the 7500 block of Downman Road when he struck the vehicle.

No other injuries or citations were reported in the crash, which is still being investigated.

Free rides availablefor inebriated drivers

Harvey — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is again offering free taxi rides to inebriated revelers, but the annual deal has a short lifespan.

Col. John Fortunato, said all Jefferson Parish residents looking for a ride home from an event within the parish can call 911 and make a request on New Year’s Eve and until midnight on New Year’s Day. Passengers will only be taken home, and the program is only available for transport from events within Jefferson Parish.

Woman, 20, accused of stabbing 3 others

New Orleans — A heated argument in New Orleans ended with three women stabbed after one of their acquaintances took offense at some of their comments.

The incident was reported around 4:15 a.m. Monday in the 8300 block of Oleander Street. Police said Lakendra Luque, 20, was at the home with three other women when she became extremely irate and stabbed two women. When a third woman tried to intervene, she also got stabbed. The father of one of the victims held Luque down until police arrived.

Police seeks manin store robbery

New Orleans — New Orleans police are looking for a man who robbed a convenience store Saturday morning after jumping the counter and beating the clerk.

The incident was reported around 9:13 a.m. in the 3000 block of Bienville Street. The victim told police a man came into his store with a gun and then jumped over the counter. The robber and clerk began fighting, and the robber struck the victim several times on the head.

Police said the man fled with several boxes filled with cash.

Bicycle rider says hewas shot from vehicle

New Orleans — A man reported being shot while riding his bicycle by someone who knew his nickname.

The victim told New Orleans police he was riding the bicycle near the intersection of Joilet Street and Palmetto Street at about 6:10 p.m. He said a vehicle pulled alongside him, and the passenger yelled out his nickname.

The victim said the passenger then opened fire on him, striking the victim in the feet and legs. The man was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, police said.
