Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after police found them sitting inside a stolen car in the 800 block of North Dupre Street.

Police began searching for the stolen vehicle around 9 a.m. While they were looking, the owner’s vehicle got a text message with a sighting: The car was near North Dupre Street and Orleans Avenue with two men inside.

When police arrived at the scene they found Jashad Simmons, 17, and Aaron Smith, 19 — as well as two handguns, according to Officer Garry Flot, an NOPD spokesman. The men were arrested for illegally carrying weapons, possession of stolen property and narcotics violations for the small amount of marijuana police said they found at the scene.
