Renovations to the North Kenner Library are complete, and the branch at 630 West Esplanade Ave. has reopened. Its hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Upgrades include:

New carpet, a new ceiling with updated LED lighting, updated library furniture; and new paint and fixtures.

A new library layout that includes a meeting room and expanded study rooms.

Exterior upgrades that include a new roof and insulation, paint, and an updated entrance with new landscaping.

The back parking lot also has been repaved to allow for easier access to the building.

ITALIAN FLAVOR: Retired college history professor Elisabetta Lejeune will discuss the history and cultural significance of Parmesan cheese when the East Jefferson Parish Italian American Society holds its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

HEALTHFUL EATING: Karen Walker, nutrition agent with the Jefferson Parish office of the LSU AgCenter, will talk about food safety and thrifty shopping and demonstrate making broccoli slaw salad at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 4, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

NOVEL WRITING: The founder of the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans, Fredrick Barton, will talk about writing as well as his new book, “In the Wake of the Flagship,” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

MILITARY RESEARCH: Sal Serio, curator of the American Italian Research Library at the East Bank Regional Library, will lead a seminar that explains how to track down military records of ancestors and how to use them in genealogical research at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

FRANCHISING WORKSHOP: A workshop on franchising will provide information about the options for business ownership, financing, and how to conduct a comprehensive search for a business opportunity at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.
