The St. Bernard Business and Professional Women’s Club will hold its Spring Into Style Fashion Show and Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 29 at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center’s South Hall, 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

The event is being held to honor its 2016 model working women, Joyce Bergeron, Lenor Duplessis and Debbie Smith, and to celebrate Administrative Assistant Week.

State of the Parish address

The St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce will host a State of the Parish address and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center’s South Hall, 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

Parish President Guy McInnis will discuss his first 100 days in office, as well as his priorities and plans for continued progress.

Lions’ golf tournament

The St. Bernard School Board Employees Lions Club’s eighth annual golf tournament is set for Saturday at Oak Harbor Golf Course, 201 Oak Harbor Blvd., Slidell. Sign-in begins at 11:30 a.m., and a shotgun start will take place at 1 p.m.

The cost is $90 per golfer or $360 for a team of four. Hole sponsorships are available for $100, $180 or $240. Checks made payable to SBP School Board Employees Lions Club can be mailed to 200 E. St. Bernard Highway, Chalmette, LA 70043.

Bird Festival

The second annual St. Bernard Bird Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. April 29 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 30 at the Los Islenos Museum Complex, 1201 Bayou Road in the St. Bernard community.

Visitors can witness this activity and get a very close view of many of the colorful species of migratory birds. Experienced local birders will guide visitors through trails in eastern St. Bernard to search for and identify the various species. Members of the St. Bernard Art Guild and local woodcarvers will display their artwork depicting many of these migratory birds. Several indoor programs will be presented, including birding tips, reforestation and local animal wildlife.

Tomato Festival

Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic School and Church will hold its 65th annual Tomato Festival April 29 through May 1 in Chalmette.

The festival, on the school grounds at 2305 Fenelon St., will feature food, rides, games and live music.

Fair hours are from 6 p.m. to midnight April 29, 11:30 a.m. to midnight April 30 and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 1.

The menu will include Tomato a la Chalmette, a dish of green tomatoes breaded and deep fried, then topped with a creamy garlic shrimp sauce. There also will be raw and grilled oysters, barbecued shrimp, jambalaya, shrimp fettuccine, crawfish fried rice, pizza, chicken strips, hamburgers, hot dogs and funnel cakes.

Tales on Tuesdays

Children 3 and older are invited to participate in the St. Bernard Parish Library’s fall session of Tales on Tuesdays.

The free programs, which will run through May 3, will introduce children to literature through storybooks, poetry, flannel boards, finger plays and activities.

Two sessions of Tales on Tuesdays will be offered: A daytime session at 1 p.m. is geared for younger listeners, and an evening session at 5:30 p.m. is open to children of all ages but targets school-aged children.

The 45-minute programs will take place at the St. Bernard Parish Library’s main branch, 2600 Palmisano Blvd., in Chalmette.

Senior driving course

The AARP will present a driving course at 1 p.m. on May 11 at the Council on Aging, 8201-A W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.
