A 28-year-old man was beaten by five suspects in an attempted armed robbery early Wednesday morning a few blocks from Jesuit High School, New Orleans police said.

The victim walked past five males in the 4300 block of D’Hemecourt Street around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, the New Orleans Police Department said in a preliminary offense log. One of the suspects allegedly approached the victim with a handgun and demanded his belongings.

When the victim declined, the suspects beat him, police said.

Two suspects fled on bicycles, and the three others fled on foot.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center. His injuries were not immediately known.
