New Orleans police on Friday were investigating the shooting of a 27-year-old man in Algiers.

The shooting happened at L.B. Landry Avenue and General De Gaulle Drive just before 1:00 p.m., police said.

The man was taken to the hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known. His two-year-old son was in the car during the incident but wasn’t injured.

On the way to the scene, a New Orleans police officer was involved in a traffic accident at General De Gaulle and Shirley Drive. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
