A 2-year-old child at a preschool center in Gentilly died Thursday in a choking incident, according to a release.
The student at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary's Early Learning Center was having lunch around noon and began choking, eventually losing consciousness. Staff and emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the child, but were unsuccessful.
“Our hearts are overwhelmed with sadness in the loss of one so young," said NOBTS President Chuck Kelley in a release.
The Early Learning Center at NOBTS currently enrolls 76 children between the ages of six weeks and four years old.
The seminary has said it's organized grief counselors to speak with staff members, parents and children.
