A Marrero teenager was arrested at L.W. Higgins High School on Friday after deputies obtained a warrant in connection with a shooting at a birthday party that left four teens wounded.

Deputies booked 19-year-old Corey Ursin on a count of aggravated second-degree battery as well as other violations. They allege that Ursin was one of two shooters involved in the Feb. 13 incident. Two 16-year-olds and two 15-year-olds were shot while attending a party at the Chitchat Rental Hall at 5425 Lapalco Boulevard around 11:30 p.m.

Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, said that Ursin and another unnamed suspect drove up to the reception hall and fired numerous shots. The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified a motive for the shooting.

Deputies said that as Ursin entered L.W. Higgins High School on Friday morning to attend school, he was placed under arrest by a campus police officer. He was found with 20 individually packaged clear bags that tested positive for marijuana, according to authorities.

Ursin was booked with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within 2,000 feet of a school zone in connection with the marijuana. He remained at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna as of Monday.
