Eight Girl Scout Cadettes from River Ridge Troop 42034 recently earned their Girl Scout Silver Awards, the highest award a registered Girl Scout Cadette in grades six through eight can achieve. They are Julia Cazabon, Sophia Ferrara, Megan Garrett, Molly Hotard, Hallie Jackson, Anne Marie Licata, Mallory Messina, and Tara Meyer.

Earning the Girl Scout Silver Award exemplifies a Girl Scout’s commitment to helping others and making a difference in the community. The Girl Scout Silver Award requires the completion of a series of leadership challenges that prepares them for their final “take action” project that involves approximately 50 hours of work.

The Girl Scout Cadettes decided to decoupage boxes with glue and paper to hold the belongings of sick infants in Ochsner’s NICU. Project advisers were troop leaders Liz Licata and Tina Messina.

The Girl Scouting mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. For more information about Girl Scouts or adult volunteer opportunities in Jefferson Parish, call the council office at (504) 733-8220 or visit
