The Republican Women’s Club of Jefferson Parish held a recent meeting at the Sheraton Metairie Hotel. The program began with the Republican Women’s Club Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Elenore Lutz spoke on the meaning of Memorial Day and the symbolism of poppy flowers.
Each guest received a poppy to wear on Memorial Day. Lutz and Jackie Olinde decorated the tables in red, white and blue.
The Republican Women’s Club of Jefferson Parish also awarded two $1,000 scholarships at the meeting.
Recipients include Janelle Murillo, a senior at East Jefferson High School. Her essay was on “Free Enterprise and the Movie Industry in Louisiana.”
Megan Bott of Haynes Academy also was awarded a scholarship to attend the Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy at Nicholls State University this summer. She was chosen for her service and leadership in school, community or church, offices held in organizations and honors and awards received.
The guest speaker was Scott McKay. He operates the website, “The Hayride,” since it began in 2009. McKay’s writings have appeared in such national publications as the American Spectator, RedState and PJ Media.
