Robbers demand drugs from Tulane students

Armed robbers broke into an off-campus apartment occupied by Tulane University students Sunday afternoon and demanded drugs while ransacking the apartment, police said.

Authorities found no evidence of drugs inside the apartment, however, and detectives are trying to determine why the robbers chose the apartment in the 800 block of Broadway.

Tulane police said the incident began about 4:30 p.m. They said a student was inside the home when two men, one of them armed with a pistol, came in and demanded drugs. The New Orleans Police Department said there were three victims, two of them 20 and one 19. After the victims were tied up with belts, according to an NOPD offense log, the suspects fled the location with several objects from the house.

“There was no evidence of drugs inside of this particular residence,” NOPD spokesman Officer Frank Robertson said. “Detectives are still trying to figure out a motive as to why the robbers chose this home.”

One robber was described as a white male in his late 20s to 30s, 6-foot-1, 160 to 170 pounds, of medium build, with low-cut black hair and a light scruffy beard, with chest tattoos and armed with a black and green pistol with a silencer.
