• STROKE RISK ASSESSMENT: West Jefferson Medical Center will offer free carotid artery screenings and personalized stroke risk assessments from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in Fonseca Auditorium of West Jefferson Medical Center, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., Marrero. There also will be glucose, blood pressure and BMI screenings from 8 a.m. to noon and $5 cholesterol screenings. There also will be talks from physical medicine and rehab physician Andrea Toomer and from stroke survivor David Adams.
  • LOUISIANA DENTAL ASSOCIATION: Dr. Randolph “Randy” D. Green, of Metairie, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association. The award goes to LDA members who exemplify high professional standards and make contributions in organized dentistry and their community. He has served in numerous positions with the New Orleans Dental Association, including 1995 president and on the conference committee, as well as 1992 chair of the New Orleans Dental Conference. He also was on the LDA board of directors for eight years, five of those as a liaison to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. He received the NODA Honor Dentist Award in 2014, the LSU School of Dentistry Alumnus of the Year in 2007, and is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists. He is co-founder of the Crescent City Hockey League and has been in the Knights of Columbus for 10 years.
  • ASSOCIATION OF PERIOPERATIVE REGISTERED NURSES: Nathalie F. Walker, of Metairie, a member of the Louisiana Nursing Supply and Demand Council, has been chosen as president-elect of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. She has been a perioperative nurse for 24 years and a member of AORN for 24 years, holding various leadership roles, including board secretary and legislative coordinator for the state of Louisiana. Walker will assume the role of president in 2017. Elected as a new member of the board was Carrie Simpson, the clinical educator for the operating room at University Medical Center New Orleans.
  • LAKEVIEW REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER: Hiral Patel has been named chief operating officer of Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. As COO, she will have executive responsibility for daily operations of the 172-bed, acute-care hospital with 850 employees, and will be part of the collaborative team responsible for the hospital’s strategic planning. Patel began her tenure at Lakeview Regional on April 4; she previously served as assistant chief operating officer at Tulane Health System in New Orleans. She holds a master’s degree in health administration from Tulane.
