Update, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday: A 19-year-old was arrested Wednesday in connection with a hoverboard robbery in New Orleans East, New Orleans police said.

Tryan Smith, 19, has been booked with armed robbery, the New Orleans Police Department said in a news release.

Around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, a 13-year-old boy was riding his hoverboard in the 9000 block of Morrison Road when he was approached from behind by Smith, who allegedly produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s hoverboard. Smith fled on foot with the hoverboard, NOPD said.

Officers in the area found Smith with a white hoverboard and another man in the driveway of a home in the 6900 block of Boston Drive. Officers executed a search warrant and found illegal narcotics, NOPD said. The other man in the driveway, 32-year-old Michael Mabon, was booked with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

A 13-year-old boy had his hoverboard stolen at gunpoint Tuesday night in New Orleans East, police said.

The boy was riding his hoverboard in the 9000 block of Morrison Road when he was approached from behind by a suspect who produced a firearm and demanded the hoverboard, the New Orleans Police Department said in a preliminary offense log.
