The man accused of beating his girlfriend to death in Metairie on Sunday, then fleeing to Texas with three children, was extradited back to Louisiana on Friday.
Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas decided not to resist being transported across state lines, said Col. John Fortunato, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman. He arrived at the Sheriff’s Office’s Investigations Bureau in Harvey about 3:15 p.m. and said nothing as detectives walked him inside.
Monterroso is accused of killing Heidi Monroy early Sunday morning.
The 24-year-old woman’s body was found in a bathtub inside her apartment in the 4000 block of Durand Street. An autopsy found she died of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Monterroso will be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on a count of second-degree murder.
After Monroy was killed, Monterroso fled with three of his children. He was arrested in a trailer park near Katy, Texas, and held in the Harris County jail.
A citizen of Honduras, he also faces the possibility of deportation after he allegedly crossed the Mexican border earlier this year.
