Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse said Thursday that Lester Johnson, the 44-year-old owner of a 7th Ward nightclub called Groove City, died of a gunshot wound early Wednesday morning in the 9700 block of West Wheaton Circle in New Orleans East.
He was just feet from the front door of his house.
Lorie Johnson said her brother was an avid sports fan and a music lover. He often took to the DJ deck at his club, earning the name “Super Live.”
“They would play old music,” Lorie Johnson said. “He had an older crowd. He didn’t have youngsters.”
Johnson was the father of a boy and two girls ages 8 to 11, Johnson said. He also had four brothers and sisters.
She said she had no idea why he was killed. “He was a good person,” she said.
Homicide Detective Ryan Vaught is in charge of the investigation into the killing and can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
