A Chalmette man has been arrested and accused of setting his wife’s rental property on fire, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.

Pohlmann said John Schuster, 47, threatened to set fire to the home on Pecan Drive on Monday night, then did just that about 4 p.m. Tuesday. No one else was home at the time, Pohlmann said, and Schuster set to work removing valuables from the home before it burned.

He was booked on counts of arson, criminal damage of more than $50,000 to the house, theft of a sport utility vehicle and theft.
