Jefferson Parish officials will meet Wednesday morning to decide what, if any, changes to make to the weekend parade schedule because of the threat of thunderstorms.
Keith Conley, chief operating officer in Parish President Mike Yenni’s administration, said administrative officials will meet at 9 a.m. to discuss potential alternatives.
At some point Wednesday afternoon those will be presented to various krewe captains, and a plan could begin to take shape.
“We’ll lay everything on the table and get a good path forward,” Conley said, noting the forecast will also be more accurate a day closer to the weekend.
He said it was too early to discuss publicly what sort of changes might be on the table.
He said the parish and other agencies will have to sort out what is doable in terms of providing the needed support services from the fire, police and public works departments. The krewes, meanwhile, will have to look at their contractual obligations for things like tractors and floats.
Ultimately, Conley said, “it will be their decision. We just have to be able to give them the alternate plans.”
The parade schedule for the Metairie route at this point is:
Friday — Centurions at 7 p.m.
Saturday – Isis at 6:30 p.m.
Sunday — Napoleon at 5 p.m. and Athena at 5:30 p.m.
Monday — No parades scheduled
Mardi Gras day — Argus at 10 a.m., followed by the Elks Jefferson and Krewe of Jefferson truck parades
