Hollygrove homicide victim identified

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office on Monday released the name of a 35-year-old man fatally shot over the weekend in Hollygrove.

Morris Bates was gunned down about 9 p.m. near Gen. Ogden and Forshey streets, according to authorities.

Investigators found the man lying on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rape reported Sunday evening in Avondale

Authorities in Jefferson Parish are investigating a rape reported Sunday evening in Avondale.

The sexual assault was reported after 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Ursula Drive, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Walgreens robbed in New Orleans East

New Orleans police are looking for a man who robbed a store in New Orleans East on Sunday evening.

It happened about 4:45 p.m. at a Walgreens on Chef Menteur Highway.

According to police, the man walked into the store claiming he was there to pick up a prescription. Instead, he pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the cashier.

The robber was described as a bearded black man in his 30s, about 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds. He was wearing glasses, a dark green shirt, dark jeans and black-and-white tennis shoes. He also had a baseball cap with a black bill with the lettering “Orleans” on the front.

Mother says boyfriend molested boys

A mother told New Orleans police Sunday that her boyfriend had touched her two young boys — ages 3 and 4 — inappropriately at a residence on North Derbigny Street in the 7th Ward.

Man carjacked Sunday night in Gentilly

A 46-year-old man was carjacked Sunday night in Gentilly, police said.

The man was sitting in his vehicle at Filmore Avenue and Vermillion Boulevard before 10 p.m. when three men approached and ordered him out at gunpoint.

The assailants also searched the man’s pockets before fleeing in his vehicle.

Boys robbed of bikes by other boys

Two boys, ages 13 and 8, were robbed of their bicycles Sunday afternoon while playing basketball in Gentilly, police said.

It happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the 5500 block of Lafaye Street.

Another boy asked to use one of the bicycles and raised his shirt to show a gun when the boy declined, police said. Police arrested two boys, 11 and 14, in the robbery, though they said two other youths also were involved.

Attempted carjacking reported in Kenner

Police in Kenner arrested a man accused of trying to carjack two women in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Lenin-Fransisco Alvarado Lopez, 17, of Kenner, was booked on counts of carjacking and second-degree kidnapping, police said.

According to police, the would-be carjacker jumped into the back seat of the women’s vehicle with a knife and demanded they begin driving. The women got out of the car screaming for help, authorities said.

Alvarado Lopez was arrested in the 600 block of Mayfair Lane.
