JPSO reports attempted murder-suicide Sunday
An attempted murder-suicide was reported in Marrero early Sunday morning, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Spokesman Glen Boyd said officers arrived on the scene in the 2700 block of Bayou Boeuf Drive about 3:30 a.m. Children, ages 21, 17 and 14, said they heard their parents involved in a “heated” argument in the living room and then heard a gunshot.
The 21-year-old said he found his father, Christopher Duplechin, 46, with a gunshot wound to the head. Duplechin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The children’s mother, Julie Duplechin, 45, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but Boyd said it appeared she would survive.
The Sheriff’s Office said it had not received any calls for service from the couple in the past involving domestic matters.
Orleans Sheriff’s Office inmate dies at hospital
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said an inmate suffered an apparent cardiac arrest and died at a hospital about 7:40 p.m. Saturday.
His name was withheld until his family was notified.
The inmate, who was facing narcotics distribution and firearms charges, was taken to the Intake and Processing Center on Thursday, said Philip Stelly, a spokesman for Sheriff Marlin Gusman. When he was examined by the medical staff, he reported “various medical conditions” and was “immediately placed on the appropriate medical protocol for opiate detoxification,” Stelly said.
During a later medical check, the inmate was found to be unresponsive but was revived. He was taken to Interim LSU Hospital, where he was sedated and listed in critical condition until he died.
The Coroner’s Office will conduct a full autopsy.
Man stabbed to death Sunday in Central City
New Orleans police are investigating a fatal stabbing that happened in Central City early Sunday morning.
A 56-year-old man was killed about 4 a.m. in the 2200 block of St. Andrew Street, police said.
Officers investigating reports of a body in the middle of the street found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. He died at the scene.

Gunshots fired at City Park party early Sunday
Gunshots were fired at an “after party” in New Orleans City Park early Sunday morning, injuring a man and a woman, police said.
The 21-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were on Dreyfous Drive near Lelong Avenue, in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art, when the incident happened about 1:30 a.m.
Both victims were taken to hospitals in private vehicles.
N.O. police report six armed robberies
Six armed robberies were reported in New Orleans between Saturday and early Sunday morning, according to police.
The first incident happened at 8:30 a.m. Saturday when a 34-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in New Orleans East. He was in the 4600 block of Camelia Street when he was approached by a robber demanding his car keys. The robber then fled in the victim’s car.
Later Saturday, about 6:20 p.m., an armed robber entered a business in the 700 block of South Carrollton Avenue and demanded that two women, ages 30 and 20, give him money from the cash register and safe. He fled with the money and the victims’ cellphones.
Then, a 52-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were robbed at gunpoint in Gentilly about 11:30 p.m. Police said the pair were in the 4400 block of Lafaye Street when a man jumped out of a silver Honda, put a gun to the man’s chest and demanded his car keys. When he complied, the robber fled in his car.
About 2 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was robbed at North Prieur and Canal streets when he was approached by two men who demanded his property. When the victim complied, the robbers fled.
Less than an hour later, a Magnolia Discount store in the 9200 block of Airline Highway was robbed when three men entered the store and one pointed a gun at a 23-year-old employee.
They searched the employee, and all three fled with the store’s change bucket, police said.
Finally, three men, ages 24, 26 and 30, were robbed at gunpoint in Mid-City about 4 a.m. Police said the three victims were at Iberville Street and North Jefferson Davis Parkway when two men got out of a white Impala and approached them.
One of the robbers was armed with a shotgun and demanded the victims’ property. They all complied, and the robbers fled.
Man shot in hand Sunday morning
A man was shot in the hand early Sunday morning in Pontchartrain Park, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The 36-year-old victim arrived at a hospital after 5 a.m. He told police he was shot in the 6400 block of Press Drive.
Cutting reported in Upper 9th Ward
A 29-year-old woman was cut Saturday in the Upper 9th Ward, according to New Orleans police.
The woman was in the 1500 block of France Street about noon when she was approached by someone with a weapon. Police said she suffered a laceration.
