A 25-year-old woman was fatally shot Tuesday morning in the 3700 block of Willow Street.

New Orleans police received a report about 9:10 a.m. that a woman had been shot between Gen. Taylor and Amelia streets near the former Magnolia public housing complex. Officers arrived to find the victim in the street bleeding.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died, police said. She had been shot multiple times.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim Tues day afternoon as Jowanda Netter.

Once the street was cordoned off, officers began to search for bullet casings and other evidence.

About halfway down the block, a dark gray Nissan Altima was parked with two bullet holes through the windshield. It wasn’t clear if the victim was driving the car. Several onlookers said she was not from the neighborhood.

Neighbors said they heard a barrage of gunfire.

“It sounded like someone emptied a clip,” said a woman who lives around the corner and would give only her first name, Lizzie. “Everyone came out, and she was down.”
