N.O. police probe two Sunday morning rapes

New Orleans police are investigating a report of a rape that authorities said happened Sunday morning in a vehicle in the French Quarter.

A 30-year-old woman said she was sexually assaulted by two men after a night of drinking, police said. The rape was reported about 8:50 a.m. in the 200 block of Bourbon Street.

A second rape was reported about 10 minutes later in Central City in the 1700 block of O.C. Haley Boulevard, police said. In that case, a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by two men.

Police: Shooting kills one in N.O. East

New Orleans police Monday were investigating the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in New Orleans East.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in front of a home in the 7700 block of Alabama Street. Police said two of the victim’s friends held the alleged gunman until police arrived.

A 19-year-old friend and the unidentified suspect were injured in the incident and taken to the hospital, police said.

Coroner identifies recent murder victims

Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse on Monday released the name of a woman fatally stabbed last week, allegedly by her boyfriend.

Julia Anderson, 23, was stabbed late Thursday in the parking lot of a McDonald’s at 3025 Elysian Fields Ave., authorities said. Anderson’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Christopher Hutsell, was booked on second-degree murder.

Rouse also released the names of two other recent homicide victims.

Bruce Tims, 25, was gunned down Saturday morning in a double shooting in the 700 block of Conti Street. The shooting also wounded a 28-year-old man, police said.

David Turner, 35, was killed in a double shooting Saturday night in New Orleans East. Police said Turner was shot multiple times and found on the ground next to a car in the 15500 block of Dwyer Boulevard. A 32-year-old man was found inside the vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police: Woman stabbed twice in one afternoon

New Orleans police said a 39-year-old woman was stabbed in two different incidents Sunday afternoon by the same assailant.

The first incident happened about 2 p.m. at South Murat and Ulloa streets. Officer Frank Robertson, a Police Department spokesman, said the woman was stabbed again about 5 p.m. in the 4600 block of Baudin Street.

Police said the victim was attacked from behind and pushed to the ground.

Investigators said 33-year-old Granda Howard is wanted in the stabbings.

NOPD investigates 3 armed robberies

New Orleans police responded to reports of three armed robberies Sunday night.

The first occurred about 8:30 p.m. in Gentilly. Police said a 26-year-old woman was taking items out of her car in the 400 block of Piedmont Drive when she was approached by a man who pointed a gun at her. The woman ran inside, and the suspect fled in her red 2003 Dodge Ram, police said.

A second robbery happened about 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of St. Philip Street, near Armstrong Park. Police said a 46-year-old man was approached by an armed man who demanded his bag. Officers booked 27-year-old Elgin Sharper in the robbery.

The third robbery occurred about midnight in the 3800 block of Banks Street in Mid-City. A 25-year-old man was approached by two robbers, one of whom struck the victim with a silver revolver and took $200 and the man’s cellphone.

Man killed Monday in dirt bike crash

A dirt bike crash killed a 30-year-old man Monday near the river in the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans police reported.

The accident happened before 1 a.m. near the intersection of North Peters and Flood streets.

The unidentified victim lost control of the dirt bike on North Peters and struck a metal bar, police said.

St. Bernard man dies in single-vehicle crash

A St. Bernard Parish man was killed Monday when he crashed his pickup into a tree. State Police said Wayne Melerine Jr., 37, died at the scene.

Investigators determined Melerine had driven off the road on La. 300 near Russell Place.

Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Man accused of sex with 14-year-old girl

A St. John the Baptist Parish man has been booked on a count of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Terrance Carlisle, 34, faces one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Sheriff’s Office investigators said the girl was supposed to be at school Wednesday but was seen entering a residence on Cambridge Drive with the older man.

The girl told authorities she had made plans the night before to meet the man at the bus stop in the morning.

No injuries reported in Baronne Street blaze

Firefighters responded to a blaze Monday that spread to several apartments at 2309 Baronne St.

No injuries were reported at the complex, which had 18 units.

The fire began about 6:30 a.m. on the first floor and spread to the second. The cause is under investigation.

Man sought in theft of car from campus

New Orleans police Monday were looking for a man wanted for allegedly stealing a vehicle from the University of New Orleans campus.

Yonas Gladstone, 22, was being sought on counts of auto theft and possession of stolen property, police said. He’s accused of stealing a Subaru Impreza on Thursday; police said the theft was captured on surveillance video.
