Fisherman found a body floating in the Industrial Canal near the Mississippi River on Thursday afternoon, New Orleans police said.

The unidentified man’s body, clad in an orange shirt and blue jeans, was spotted in the water near the Poland Avenue wharf just before noon, said Matt Gresham, a spokesman for the Port of New Orleans.

Gresham said authorities, including the NOPD homicide division, were working to retrieve the body, which was secured under to the wharf about 12:20 p.m.

The Orleans Parish coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine how the man died.
