The New Orleans Police Department is trying to find a man suspected of robbing the 24/7 Discount store at 1635 Tulane Ave. on Friday.

The cashier told NOPD that the man walked into the store around 10:05 a.m. and tried to purchase food and a drink, according to a news release. When he got to the register, the cashier told police that he asked to use the store’s phone.

When he hung up the phone, the cashier told police that the suspect jumped onto the counter and took around $1,000 from the cash register.

The man then fled the store on foot, police said.

The suspect is described as a black man with a bald head. He was wearing a light blue, short-sleeve shirt, black undershirt, dark blue jeans and tennis shoes, police said. He was carrying a plastic to-go plate of chicken and a bottle of Fanta when he approached the counter.

The incident is under investigation.
