Kenner’s Hispanic Resource Center will hold its annual health and resource fair Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 4312 Florida Ave.
Several services sponsored by local organizations will be offered. These include free childhood immunization shots, screenings for blood pressure, dental, asthma and mental health, information on GED classes as well as English as a second language, registration information on soccer for children ages 4 to 13 and information on home medical equipment and services.
Also, representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank will assist individuals and families with food stamp applications.
The event is free and open to the public.

Art show and sale
St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road, Old Metairie, will host an art show and sale from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the church.
The show will feature oil painting, watercolors, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture. Local artists include Bekye Fargason, Anne Adair Reeves, Steve Brauner, Allison Thomas, Karen Merrick, Shela Thompson, Gretchen Armbruster and Kat B. Rich.
It’s free, and proceeds will benefit the ministries and outreach program of the church.

Bark in the Park
The annual Bark in the Park, sponsored by the Louisiana SPCA, will be held Sunday at Zephyr Stadium, 6000 Airline Drive, in Metairie.
Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and the Zephyrs will play the Round Rock Express at 2 p.m. Spectators can watch the game with their pet from the levee area near the baseball field or watch the game inside the stadium. No pets will be allowed inside the stadium.
The first 500 levee fans will receive a free T-shirt.
Pets will be available for adoption from several organizations, including the Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue and the Louisiana Boxer Rescue.
Levee tickets are $6 per person and stadium seats are $8, $9 and $10 per person.

A special ‘party’ for Nagin
Humorist and author Chris Champagne and musician Philip Melancon have teamed up to present a special cabaret-style performance Thursday called “Ray Nagin: The Going Away Party.”
The musical comedy performance will be held at 8 p.m. at Andrea’s Restaurant, 3100 19th St., in Metairie. Admission is $15 per person.

Rose sale on Sunday
The New Orleans Old Garden Rose Society will hold its annual rose sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie.
There will be more than 300 roses for sale and approximately 30 different varieties. Society members will be on hand to assist in the selection of a rose appropriate for your particular garden.
The cost is $10 per one gallon size plant.
St. Francis festival
St. Francis Xavier School will host its annual Old Metairie Festival and school fair Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. on the school grounds, 444 Metairie Road, Old Metairie.
There will be food, games, raffles, a silent auction and live music. Admission is free.
All proceeds will benefit the school.
The Jefferson Parish Library is offering a special fine forgiveness deal for patrons with overdue items beginning Monday and continuing until the end of the month.
The fine forgiveness arrangement applies to books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes and other items borrowed from the library.
Patrons who return items to the library will no longer be held responsible for paying for the item.
Patrons who need duplicate library cards due to loss or theft will be able to get them at no cost.

AARP driving class planned
A four-hour AARP safe driving class will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 18 at the Elmwood Fitness Center, 1200 South Clearview Parkway, Harahan.
The class is open to those 50 and older. Those completing the course will receive a certificate that may qualify them for a discount from their auto insurer for up to three years.
The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.

Free art classes in Lafitte
The Lafitte Senior Center is offering two free community arts events SaturdayFriday; rom 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, children and adults of all ages are invited to drop in and explore their creative side. All materials are provided, and no artistic experience is necessary.
