Theirs will be the final eighth grade class to graduate as the eighth grade will move to high schools throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

The last day of school for the last eighth-grade class to graduate from St. Christopher School in Metairie was bittersweet. They released balloons as part of the special day, while the rest of the school body came out to the school yard to cheer them on.

Archbishop Gregory Aymond and Catholic Schools Superintendent Jan Lancaster announced in January that the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will move forward with the uniform grade-level structure recommended by the 2013 Strategic Plan. The plan calls for all Catholic elementary schools in the archdiocese to be prekindergarten through seventh grade and all Catholic high schools to be eighth grade through 12th grade by the 2015-16 school year.
