NASA astronaut Jeanette J. Epps will be the guest speaker during the “STEM Saturdays with Dr. Calvin Mackie” series from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 10, at the Joe W. Brown Recreation Center, 5601 Read Blvd., New Orleans. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

The program will offer children opportunities to build and launch rockets of all kinds: paper, air-pump, water-propelled, Alka-Seltzer-propelled and engine-propelled.

Epps recently graduated from Astronaut Candidate Training with intensive instruction in International Space Station systems, extravehicular activity, robotics, physiological training, T-38 flight training and water and wilderness survival training.

The cost of the program is $60, but Boeing is sponsoring 50 free slots for children who attend school on free and reduced-price lunch vouchers. To register, visit www.STEMNOLA.com.
