Harvey man booked Tuesday on rape count
A Harvey man already in jail in connection with a pending aggravated assault case was rebooked Tuesday on a count of raping a woman in 2013, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office probable cause statement.
Carlos Galeas-Gomez, 25, is accused of dragging a woman between two buildings in the 1200 block of Aberdeen Street in Harvey on May 19, 2013. Detective Kelly Kron wrote that he and another, unidentified man then raped the woman as she screamed for help.
The detective said that after the suspects fled, the victim was taken to a hospital, where a rape kit was collected. In December 2014, Kron wrote, she got a match in a DNA database for Galeas-Gomez.
Deputies arrested him Aug. 1 after he was accused of pointing a semi-automatic handgun and a black rifle at two people in the 1000 block of Tallow Tree Lane.
Kron wrote that after securing a warrant, she swabbed Galeas-Gomez’s cheek for DNA, confirming that he matched the rape kit sample. The victim also identified him out of a photo lineup, she said.
Galeas-Gomez faces a maximum life sentence. He remains in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.
His attorneys did not return requests for comment.
