Girl Scout Silver Awards have been awarded to Cadette Troop 20588 in Destrehan and to Rebekah Travis in Des Allemands Cadette Troop 20554.

Silver Awards are presented to Cadettes in sixth through eighth grades who complete a series of leadership challenges that prepare them for a final take-action project.

Destrehan Troop 20588 decided to clean up and beautify its community through a variety of projects including plantings, trash pick-up at a park, and repainting a map of the United States on a local school playground. Hollie Pfister was the project adviser for Brianna Anderson, Faith Bolden, Emily Madere, Alexis Robertson, Hannah Robin, Jessie Mae Sandolph and Josie Taylor.

Travis, of Des Allemands, wanted to give back to the church where her troop meets. She decided to build a wooden bench to give St. Gertrude Catholic Church members a place to rest while waiting for church to start. Her project adviser was Denise Matherne.

Also, a Girl Scout Bronze Award has been awarded to Luling Girl Scout Junior Troop 20019. Bronze Awards are presented to juniors in fourth and fifth grades who complete a series of leadership challenges that prepare them for a final take-action project.

Luling Troop 20019 took on a project of informing its community about the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. Besides participating in community clean-ups, the girls shared with Girl Scout Daisies how to recycle and reuse items, as well as researching and creating informative posters they placed in schools in their community. Gina Raby was adviser for Lauren Errington, Kennedy Ertel, Laila Harding and Giavanna Raby.
