Just because you don't see a camera, that doesn't mean you won't be caught speeding in a school zone.

Along with the new traffic cameras installed around the city, unmarked white cars outfitted with cameras were parked in school zones beginning the week of Jan. 9, WWL-TV reported.

The five cars currently on the street are the first set of mobile cameras the city and NOPD are hoping will help deter speeders and red-light runners. Five more mobile cameras will come later. The police department is responsible for deciding the locations of the mobile traffic cameras, said city Public Works Director Mark Jernigan.

A total of 45 new cameras will be deployed, but it will take until April until they are all in place, said Jernigan.
