A Dallas man who brought a teenage girl to New Orleans for prostitution was sentenced to 221/2 years in prison Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan.

Taurean Jackson, 26, who also was known as “Marvelous Rich,” persuaded the victim, 16, to join him and Andrea Birdow in a prostitution ring.

Anna Christman, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, said Jackson swayed the girl by showing her a video of “the purportedly glamorous life of a prostitute,” including scenes from “a hotel room, riding in a stretch limousine, drinking Champagne and eating a heaping plate of nachos.”

Once she was under Jackson’s wing, Christman said, he beat the girl just as he had Birdow, who was sentenced to time served earlier this month.

Birdow and the victim were arrested in a Metairie hotel by undercover Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators in July 2013.

Jackson pleaded guilty in February. U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite called his crimes “brazen.”

Morgan also sentenced him to 10 years of supervised release and ordered him to register as a sex offender when he leaves prison.
