A 36-year-old Gentilly woman was indicted on a murder charge by an Orleans Parish grand jury on Thursday in the 2013 stabbing death of 17-year-old L.B. Landry High School bass drummer Tyrone Scott.
Ayanna Taplette is accused of killing Scott on April 24, 2013, in the Columbia Parc Apartments.
Scott had been there visiting his girlfriend, according to an account at the time from WDSU-TV. An NOPD spokesman told the station that “the investigation, thus far, does not suggest that this woman had planned to seek out the teenager to murder him.”
Until Thursday, Taplette had not been charged with a crime. She had been released after admitting that she stabbed Scott, saying she was startled by his presence in a bedroom closet, according to police.
A spokesman for District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday on the reason for the change.
